A variety of textures exist on 'Arias Under Curves' from the single unedited track on "Tromba Marina' to the multiple overdubs of 'Five Hours North' and 'Karagouna'.
No other effects were used. The apparent Indian percussion on 'Benares Bounce' is due to pizzicato harmonics and the dubbish echo on 'Five Hours North' was laboriously played in by hand;
Recording took place from February to June 2007, with the able and dedicated service of recording engineer Eddie Castellan.
The 5 string electric cello is the brainchild of visionary designer and instrument maker Ned Steinberger. The arrangements of these compositions is in part thanks to the instrument's design with its multiple pickups and extended range.
The cover artwork is a photo of the landscape where I formulated most of the arrangements on many long walks with Beau the dalmatian, now deceased...I am now working on my next very differnt album 'Dogs and Blues'!
